EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Learning. Connecting. Growing.

PROGRAMS

For Brighter Days

We offer educational programs through our accredited year-round school plus day training to enhance adaptive living skills. As they acquire new skills, residents gain a sense of autonomy, personal choice and greater independence. We also recognize that everyone likes to have a good time. Community outings as well as quiet activities in-house help broaden our residents’ awareness and interest in their environment.

The Day School at Swann is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and employs licensed teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses and therapy staff.

Day Training Program

Our Day Training Program focuses on the development and enhancement of daily adaptive living skills, such as motor skills, range of motion, cognitive awareness, communication and activities of daily living. Open to residents of the greater community as well as those residing at Swann, Day Training operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Team members are highly qualified to support residents' needs. Program development and oversight is provided by full-time Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (QIDPs). Individualized Service Plans are implemented by certified Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Specialized adaptive equipment is also available to enhance the learning process.

Improving Quality of Life

The program's intent is to:

  1. Continue to expand upon previously acquired skills of each person served.
  2. Work toward independent living through use of interdisciplinary skill training.
  3. Develop individualized service plans that have functional goals rather than task-oriented goals.
  4. Provide functional recreational activities.
  5. Provide community support.
I like going to Day Training to help with work and learning new things. I like helping other clients and counting beads.
